IRAN ATTACK? Very Big Stuff Going On, and We Don't Know What It Is
Right now is probably the most critical moment in geopolitics since Hitler invaded Poland, and we are not being told what is going on. Apparently, everyone else in the world knows something that is being carefully withheld from the American people. What is it?
It strongly appears that Iran is reaching climax. A Russian military source seems to have deliberately leaked the US plans for a surprise attack April 6. This is billed as a major diplomatic leak of the highest priority. Perhaps it indicates that some really and truly heavy duty world diplomacy is going on, with the Russians upping the ante by blowing the US cover. Perhaps not. But certainly something's up. For one thing, people are going on the record. The Russian news agency, RIA Novosty, has fully sourced reports of the story on its official web site. Well, it has them on the one in French, anyway. English? Nope.
Here are links for the French (Headlines translated to English with Google):
Iran will be attacked at the beginning of April (Russian military experts)
The Pentagon will attack Iranian military targets (Russian expert)
English, as we have said, is not available. For that, we need the blogosphere and the conspiracy sites, because no one else is saying one single word. Here's a typically scary link to disturb your sleep.

Russian Military Sources Warn
General Ivashov Calls For Emergency Session Of UN Security Council To Ward Off Looming US Aggression
By Webster G. Tarpley
3-25-7WASHINGTON DC -- The long awaited US military attack on Iran is now on track for the first week of April, specifically for 4 AM on April 6, the Good Friday opening of Easter weekend, writes the well-known Russian journalist Andrei Uglanov in the Moscow weekly "Argumenty Nedeli." Uglanov cites Russian military experts close to the Russian General Staff for his account.
The attack is slated to last for twelve hours, according to Uglanov, lasting from 4 AM until 4 PM local time. Friday is a holiday in Iran. In the course of the attack, code named Operation Bite, about 20 targets are marked for bombing; the list includes uranium enrichment facilities, research centers, and laboratories.

Observers comment that this dispatch represents a high-level orchestrated leak from the Kremlin, in effect a war warning, which draws on the formidable resources of the Russian intelligence services, and which deserves to be taken with the utmost seriousness by pro-peace forces around the world.

Ivashov attributed decisive importance to the decision of the Democratic leadership of the US House of Representatives to remove language from the just-passed Iraq supplemental military appropriations bill which would have demanded that Bush come to Congress before launching an attack on Iran. Ivashov pointed out that the language was eliminated under pressure from AIPAC, the lobbing group representing the Israeli extreme right, and of Israeli Foreign Minister Tsipi Livni.
Are the Russians blowing smoke? We'll never know, because the story is not being touched in MSM. You'd think the US government would at least issue one of its non-denial denials, something like, "All options remain on the table, but nothing is definite at this time."
It didn't.
Meanwhile, rumors fly and the price of oil spikes. There was a bona fide war scare today, as rumors flew of another Tonkin Incident. Here's a relatively straight account from the Canadian CBC:
Oil prices surge as tensions in Iran escalateNow, since as we know, the business of the United States is business, you would think at least this would be worth a lead at, say CNN.com.

Crude oil prices rose to a six-month high on Tuesday, triggered by false reports of an Iranian missile attack on a U.S. ship as well as increasing tensions over Iran's capture of 15 British sailors and marines. The U.S. military was quick to deny rumours of the attack on one of its ships in the Persian Gulf. Military officials said they checked all their ships and no evidence of any attack was found.Still, oil prices rose by eight per cent.
Meanwhile, Britain and Iran were battling over the British navy crew seized by Iran on Friday.
Nope. Close, but nope. Here's the lead in the evening:

Tillman's mom: 'They were lying to us'
The mother of Cpl. Pat Tillman, the former NFL player killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan in April 2004, on Tuesday rejected the latest explanation from the U.S. military about her son's death. The latest investigation "only presented the points of view of the soldiers in the vehicle" who fatally shot her son, Mary Tillman said on ESPN Radio's "Dan Patrick Show."
Nope.
Air America Radio?
Nope.
Nation Magazine?
Dunno, their site's down. Interesting timing, especially given that another major progressive political site was attacked yesterday. Are the covert ops beginning? Is it just hacking as usual? We'd sure like to know, but apparently the biggest world crisis in 50 years is going to happen outside US news media.
I wonder why.
